Few NCAA arenas in all of college basketball carry the kind of history and soul that Hinkle Fieldhouse does. Known as "Indiana's Basketball Cathedral," Hinkle has been the home of the Butler Bulldogs since its opening in 1928, making it one of the oldest college basketball arenas still in continuous use in the nation. Built on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, it was the largest basketball arena in the country when it opened — and it held that distinction for more than 20 years. Hinkle was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987, recognized not just for its stunning brick-and-steel architecture, but for its profound influence on the game of basketball itself. The fieldhouse hosted Indiana High School Basketball State Championship games for over four decades, and it was right here in 1954 that the legendary "Milan Miracle" took place — the game that inspired the beloved movie Hoosiers, whose famous final championship scenes were filmed right on this floor.
