When Little Caesars Arena opened its doors on September 5, 2017, Detroit hockey entered a new era. Built at a cost of $863 million, the 19,515-seat arena anchors The District Detroit, a 50-block mixed-use development connecting downtown and midtown that brought all four of Detroit's major sports franchises back into the city limits for the first time since 1974. The arena's design is genuinely unlike anything else in sports — a unique "deconstructed" layout where restaurants, offices, and shops surround the bowl itself, all connected by a stunning glass-roofed indoor concourse called "The Via," which stays open year-round as a public gathering space even on non-event days.
